I graduated University of Washington with a psychology degree in 2016 with a 3.7 GPA and on the Deans list every quarter. I am very pleased to say I have my Bachelors in Psychology! It was a fun major-very interesting classes. The major teaches you how to be a "diverse" type of individual because you learn how to be understanding of people who think differently/act differently from yourself and have compassion and empathy for them (this comes to handy when in a work setting and you have irate customers, or just being patient with people in general, and with sales persuading someone they need a product).

It took a lot of time and dedication to ultimately achieve that high of a GPA at such a prestigious university, it definitely took sacrifices! Weekends in and glued to my desk chair without going out with friends studying for exams. I had to give up horseback riding which was my favorite hobby because my priority was my education. I decided to purse working at my fathers car dealership and I am proud to say I am a finance manager of now 1.5 years and I really enjoy it! The hours are very difficult 10am-8pm (usually later). It is hard on your body but also hard on your mind which college really teaches you the type of work ethic needed to achieve success in a work environment in the real world.

The degree has helped me most with the sales aspect of the job (educating customers on the value of why they NEED warranties and gap insurance) but also mainly with being able to understand and diffuse customer conflict and come to some sort of resolution. When you are able to relate with customers who are not as fortunate in life as you and just be understanding the reviews are very rewarding.

The Mac Ruddell Scholarship helped pay for my first quarter of college and I would say the scholarship is definitely beneficially and should be continued. Scholarships in general help students financially because the amount it costs for books and tuition is crazy. Financial hardships shouldn't ever get in the way of a college degree.
